Hi Randy, dont you jus love the way an old tube amp smells when its warming up? I rescued an old Epiphone “ZEPHER” amp from a local tavern in indpls.that had been sitting in a dark corner in the basement for 35 years since the owner bought the place.I was there reparing some soft drink equipment for him and asked about the amp. he said make me an offer which i did and took it home.I pulled the chassi (Gibson identified)and the speaker(12″with center loaded horn) and cleaned 35 or more years of smoke and grease from every surface i could get to.The controll panel which i thought was brown was chrome plated and like new under the crud and the crud on the greenish vinal covering oozed nickotine from every nook and cranny when i sprayed 409 on it. The speaker turned out to be gold color and the cone was in good shape.THIS amp still smells like a stinkin bar if you get close to the tweed! I finnally got it looking pretty good so i plugged her in and let her cook for a while and it sounds pretty sweet,It has a warm kinda…..hmm….Chuck barry..ishh/honkytonk/Venture..ish sound.I was real supprised it even worked at all.Gruin Guitars pegged it as early fifties and gave an un solicited off the cuff estimate of what it would be valued at.Its a keeper! I posted a comment about the mini humbuckers im wanting to pot,I will call you tomorrow. Ranger aka Dennis
