PAF Pickups

I currently have around 10 vintage PAF’s. Double whites, zebras, and double blacks. All are original, with covers, and vary in price according to collectibility and condition, lead length, and D.C. resistance readings. I have one set of beautiful double whites, with the nickel covers never removed. Without fail, everyone who has purchased PAF pickups has found them to sound magical.

Hi Randy, Im going to wax pot the pickups on my 74 L/P deluxe gold top and may have to damage the trim ring on the neck pickup to get one of the screws out because its stripped and wont come up out of the bracket in the cavity.I hate to damage the ring but i dont have any other ideas but to carefully cut around the screw so i can lift the cover up and off the pickup so i can get a good grip on the screw and back it out with some leverage applied to it.Would you have a cream pickup ring laying around loose?Im not going ahead with this untill i locate one of course.Another question..Is it usual for the nickle covers on these pickups to be soldered on each side to the metal base of the coil or is this someone elses attempt at controlling microphonic feedback? Also is it usual for the nuts to be soldered in place so they cant turn as you adjust the height of the pickup or is this something else someone did just to piss me off? comments appreciated!

Ranger;Your talking about a mini-humbcking pickup here it sounds like. The are two machine screws in between the polepieces that hold the pickups in.You may be able to press down on the pickup enough to get a visegrip plier on the stripped screw.Maybe you better call me onb this one.
